How to Prepare for your Spray Tan Appointment

Preparation is the key to an even, flawless spray tan. Whether this is your first spray tan appointment or you are an avid tanner who is looking to improve the longevity of your tan, this blog tells you everything you need to know!

Exfoliate!

Spray tan and self tanners have this horrible habit of sticking to drier areas of skin and as a result, these areas can show up darker in your final result. I always recommend exfoliating with a mitt in the shower in the 2-3 days leading up to your tan. Once you're out of the shower, apply a generous layer of moisturiser. When exfoliating, pay extra attention to your knees, ankles, elbows and hands!

Please remember to schedule this in for the days leading up to your tan but do not exfoliate or moisturise on the day of your appointment.

Hair Removal

Shaving or waxing should be carried out at least 24 hours before your spray tan appointment. Hair removal opens up your pores and this can cause the tan to seep into your pores leaving dark spots if carried out too close to your appointment.

Showering before your appointment

It is important that your skin is clean and clear of any products prior to your spray tan. Take a shower to removal all moisturiser, deodorant and make-up before your tan is applied. Products can interfere with the development of your spray tan, especially if they are oil based.

Wear dark, loose-fitting clothes

After your spray tan you will need to wear loose-fitting clothes for 8-10 hours to avoid rubbing off your tan in any areas. Pyjamas, lounge wear or a dressing gown would be perfect! Stick to dark colours or black as there may be a small amount of transfer from your spray tan initially.

Prep those nails!

If you have bare nails, paint them with a clear nail varnish at least. Spray tan can cause discolouring of your nails so it's always best to have your manicure/pedicure done before your appointment. After your tan, we will wipe down your nails and the palms of your hands to avoid any discolouring.
